31 Days of Fun: Day 8

You may have read my past blog posts about a month of thanks in November and a month of "clearning" (no that's not a typo) in March -- and the fun continues with "31 Days of Fun" during this month of May. My daily "fun" comments so far have fit in a Facebook status update, but today had a plethora of fun moments ... and comes with pictures ... so I will document it here.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day but I celebrated with my mom today so we could also coordinate a visit with my brother. Since mom can't drive very far due to glaucoma, I usually try to help her run errands when I visit.  We started with Jo-Ann's fabrics where I had fun snapping pictures of some adorable metal yard critters.  :)  I also bought myself a Mother's Day gift (it was 50% off!) -- my first hummingbird feeder.  I need to find the recipe for the sugar water and hang it outside tomorrow.  I do hope it attracts hummingbirds!

Then we went to lunch at the Archive, a new restaurant in Olde Town Arvada where we each had fish and chips.  I love trying a new restaurant!

Then we swung by to see my brother Chip. During the visit, we ended up looking at some old and new photographs of him.  I was floored at how he has changed since 1991 and had fun taking pictures of his pictures so I could share them. Below is a picture from 1991, then 1993 and then current day.

Then it was off to Echter's nursery where mom used her Groupon and I got to do one of my favorite things -- take pictures of flowers.  :)

Then it was back home to open her Mother's Day gifts, and dinner at an Italian restaurant where we both had sausage cannoli and finished the evening off with yummy Spumoni. Soooo good. This restaurant is hidden away in a tiny strip mall, has been there forever, and neither of us had ever eaten there. Mom said people call into the restaurant show and rave about their pizza.  So, I experienced two new restaurants in one day.

Once back home (poor doggies ... I was gone for 11 1/2 hours), I read an email from a new friend, excited about a testimonial he received.  I'm so glad he thought of me to share his good news.

And now, the pièce de résistance... I'm watching Bette White host Saturday Night Live.  FUN day!

It's not too late to join in on making a conscious choice to weave in some fun into each and every day.  Please feel free to share your fun moments here.  Or go to 31 Days of Fun to start logging your own experiences.  Have fun!

I Need To Get Over Myself

I'm celebrating Mother's Day with mom today instead of tomorrow, so I've been debating about joining in on a Random Acts of Kindness Meetup Group Event tomorrow. It's "Adopt a Grandparent" on Mother's Day at a nursing home in Aurora. I don't know why, but I've been too nervous to join activities in the past.  Probably because it's something new and I don't know how I will fit in or be able to contribute once I show up.

Today's Our Daily Bread ended with a quote from Shakespeare: "They truly love who show their love."

I should just RSVP and then I'll be committed.  I couldn't imagine being alone in a nursing home on any holiday where love is being showered upon others "out there" in the world. Despite *wanting* to do something for elderly people, something has held me back. If I focus on others' needs then maybe it's easier to 'get over myself' and remember it's not about me. It's all about them.
